In Year 6 we based our art around the book, Monkey and the Water Dragon, a traditional folk tale from China.
We found out why dragons are so important in Eastern culture. We created our own mythical creatures, experimenting with tone and texture to represent the personality of our creature.
We found out that chinese painting is one of the oldest continous artistic traditions in the world.Shui-mo, (shui meaning water and mo meaning ink), is freehand watercolour painting. Using watercolours we created our own amazing paintings.
Using charcoal to create line, tone, colour and shape we completed effective portraits. Can you tell which half is the original?
We listened to several pieces of Chinese music and then created a fan dance to reflect the features in one of the pieces. We worked in pairs and as a group to create a performance.
We worked to improve our drumming and created a piece of music for our dragon dance. We then used audacity to synchronise different sections for our final composition.
